HERVs and Their Role in Neurological Diseases
Research conducted by a team of researchers from Cornell University, Icahn School of Medicine, King’s College London, UK, and University of Exeter Medical School, UK shows that genetic sequences in our DNA known as Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) that have been inherited by successive generations for several thousands of years play a role in major psychiatric conditions such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia. Some of the computational tools used in this study were samtools 1.5, biomaRt, kallisto, and R3.6.3. More details of this research can be found at https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-024-48153-z
